Pro-Organic Belize is pleased to announce it will be offering free Farm & Garden Workshops at the 2022 National Agriculture Trade Show.  Ten hour-long workshops will offer NATS attendees a wealth of information on improving soil health and regenerative agriculture.

 

Pro-Organic Belize already hosts a free, monthly Speaker series on organic agriculture and related topics, via Zoom.  Offering expert information to NATS Fair attendees furthers the Pro-Organic Belize goal of a healthy, sustainable agriculture.

10:00 a.m.      Growing Hemp and its Potential for soil remediation                 

William Grimshaw of Tropicann Foods

Changing laws in Belize open an age-old technique of soil rebuilding, the growth of hemp.  This exciting development could offer farmers a new tool to build fertile soil.

 

11:00 a.m.       Home Garden Tips & Pest Control  
Leonardo Pech & Indira Patt of Sustainable Harvest International

Gardeners take note, this workshop offers practical, non-toxic ways to help plant growth and control insects and other pests.  Come, learn, and have fun.

 

1:00 p.m.        Soil Health & Things Unseen          

Stephen Zitzer PhD of Eden Bio Reserve

Basic science explores the microscopic world in this look into soil biology and things you can learn about your own soil.  No science experience necessary.

 

2:00 p.m.        Micro Greens: Crops for the Kitchen

Your own kitchen can be part of your garden or farm with fresh, organic sprouts.  If you only seek home consumption or want to meet the market demands for micro greens, this talk will inform.

Learn the story first-hand on how a degraded cattle pasture was turned into an abundant, productive jungle farm.  An entertaining look at long-term solutions.

 

1:00 p.m.        Water Management Best Practices `           

 Ed Boles, Ph.D, Aquatic Ecologist

Too much water?  Not enough water?  Polluted water?  This workshop looks at best practices to conserve and improve water quality. 

 

2:00 p.m.        Growing & Marketing Organic Produce   

Rene Tzib of Rene Tzib Farm

Time to talk farmer-to-farmer in this workshop where the ins and outs of running an organic farm will be shared.  Open to all but geared to organic farmers.

 

3:00 p.m.        What to Plant Where, Why & How            

Santiago Juan Nabitunich Farm

This talk will start with seeds and go to harvest and sale.  Not only a how-to workshop, but a why-to workshop as well.  A sustainable agriculture overview for Belize farmers.
